What do you think makes a Performer a "Great Performer"?

For those of you who aren't familiar with the term Performer, I am referring to anyone who works as an entertainer, Singer, Actor, Stand Up Comedian or other similar roles.

The show they put on is memorable decades later. Alice Cooper is one such artist who didn't just perform, he put on a show of entertainment. Few other music artists are able to do such. P! nk is another who performs beyond just singing and dancing.

My brother is a professional stand up comedian and I very funny. His material is all about things that the audience can relate to.
George Carlin is a classic example of doing this.
Also my brother doesn't use fowl language during his performances.

I think a big part is his/her personality, the way it shines through his/her performance and the way it is perceived by the audience.

I somehow know a movie with Morgan Freeman or Martin Sheen is going to make an impression on me. The role, the story and the director are irrelevant at this point.
