What's your favorite Hall and Oates song?

I had never heard of this band so I just listened to clips of 18 of their top “hits” and I have to say they all sound like they were written by a computer, at a time when I don't think computers were writing songs.

On top of that, the music is all sort of dorky, and I can't believe these guys were ever popular, much going to less #6 on the Billboard charts, at a time when there was some great, great music being produced. However, the next year they dropped to #94 and the year after that they weren't on the charts at all, so I think that speaks for itself.

The only song I found that sounds like it was written by a human was You Make My Dreams Come True. It's not my style of song but it is original and well-written and arranged and performed, even though the bones of it are still largely formulaic. To me, this band should have been a one hit wonder with this song only.

I would hands down say, "She's Gone"... Both musically and lyrically. It starts out slow and builds up to a crescendo of emotion of the duo singing "she's gone!" as if really missing and feeling lonely at the loss of a recent relationship. I think it is one of the best songs of its era and not just the best song of Hall and Oates.

My favorites are Sara Smile and I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do). Sara Smile feels so tender and intimate, I used to play it while sketching late at night. I Can’t Go for That has that cool groove you can’t resist moving to, perfect for solo dance breaks at home 💿✨

Guys used to often sing  'Man Eater'  to me and I'd take it as a compliment.  Although not originally theirs, I really like the  'You've Lost That Loving Feeling'  version of Daryl & John very much.

I can't pick just one song. There's too, too many fantastic songs. I think "I Can't Go For That" and "Kiss Is On My List" are among my top 5 favs. I can tell you that I think their most overlooked song is the beautiful "Don't Hold Back Your Love". That has to be one of, if not THE most underrated Hall & Oates song.
