Is U/G madness a strong budget deck in Magic Premodern?

I saw some pro gamer playing the old U/G madness deck in Premodern and winning with it. It only costs around $65 to make the deck and he was beating people who were playing multi-thousand dollars combo decks. . His list looks something like this:

4 Wild Mongrel

4 Basking Rootwalla

4 Arrogant Wurm

4 Waterfront Bouncer

4 Wonder

3 Roar of the Wurm

4 Circular Logic

4 Daze

4 Careful Study

4 Frantic Search

21 lands, including 4 Yavimaya Coast.

Sideboard included Tormod's crypt and I think Compost, and an extra Roar of the Wurm. Didn't catch what else he had in his sideboard.

He beat all but the most broken decks, and again, he was beating decks that cost several thousand dollars to build.

UG Madness is absolutely a legit budget deck in Premodern 😎

It’s fast, resilient, and punishes slow, expensive combo and control decks. Wild Mongrel plus Basking Rootwalla and Arrogant Wurm still create brutal tempo swings, and Circular Logic is basically a one-mana hard counter here.

It’s tiered as a real deck, not just a meme. For $65, its power-to-price ratio is insane in this format 💚🌀

For me, U/G means upgrade in airline language, "Wurm" means "worm" in German.

So, if I read you correctly you need to upgrade the worm in order to bring it to the compost and all that for $65. My deck is not going to be cleaner with all that.

One thing I must agree with you. To build a proper deck for my backyard, it will cost me an arm and a leg.

Not really. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. There is a reason usually when everyone is going in a different direction. You could still have fun with it and maybe have some winning outcomes certainly and for 65 bucks what you got to loose. But many times in magic you get what you pay for and more expensive cards are more expensive because they are more better.
