Does anyone else miss old Tumblr and its 2010s fandom vibes?

I know Tumblr still exists, but I recently logged in and it's just not the same. I joined back in 2008 and in the early 2010s it was popping. The Dr who and Sherlock fandoms were all over the place. It's where I found a community of other christian witches. Sure it was really just a bunch of young girls larping, but we are all so supportive. Now it feels dead. The UI is so ugly now.

It was the first time a lot of these folks met each other for the first time, and that attempted convention’s massively viral failure seemed to stop the cringe behavior in those fandoms practically overnight. Tumblr gained a real awareness of itself that day, and as much as you might miss the devil-may-care enthusiasm that bordered on something psychotic at times, it was ultimately for the best.

OMG i remember dashcon. I didn't go, but I watched the fallout. I don't know if dashcon killed tumblr, but I can agree that some of the fandom communities were hella toxic

I've only seen tumblr once but it seemed like a porn site almost. My boyfriend was showing me pages devoted to this one very specific thing he was into and there were dozens and dozens for it, maybe over a hundred... and it was not something I realized people did lol

I totally get this 🥲 That 2010–2014 Tumblr era felt like its own little universe. Doctor Who, Sherlock, Supernatural, Avengers, all the gifsets and crack edits, those long text posts and inside jokes… it was peak fandom culture.

It was messy but so cozy. Now it feels more fragmented and commercial. That Christian witch / niche-fandom community vibe was so specific and sincere. It’s kinda like going back to your old school and realizing everyone’s gone 💔
