What movie in your opinion is the most women empowering movie?

I believe that movies like "wonder woman" or "superwoman" are empowering but in reality after watching the franchise movies of "i spit on your grave" i think that they are the most disturbing movies ever to men, but for women i think that they like it...

Such movies makes you wonder if you should take a side with women or men 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was watching "i spit on your grave 3: vengeance is mine" and it made me confused because it was too much to handle but than again i think that these guys deserved what happened to them...

It’s not really empowering in my opinion though, because it’s unrealistic. Our protagonist is neither flawed nor redeemed. Portraying women as unflawed is not empowering. Neither is redeeming their otherwise irredeemable behavior just because they’re female. That’s why i have no desire to see the latest “Supergirl”. I’m tired of female jack*sses being justified in pop culture. I grew up with wholesome, moralistic “Superman” and “Supergirl”. They always tried their best to do the right thing. There was no “f*ck it, i’m a girl and nobody can beat me up, so i can do whatever i want” bullsh*t. There also wasn’t some ever-present ideal that a love interest is somehow dehumanizing to female protagonists. Why is that supposed to be awesome? In EVERY adaptation of “Superman”, his love interest is prominent. Lois practically makes him kowtow in the latest edition. The most powerful entity in all the universe, and they made him a simpering fool for a mortal woman. But Supergirl being good and kind, and having a love interest is too demeaning to women?
What in the actual f*ck?
You know the first movie i thought of when i read your question? “Bridesmaids”
Our protagonist is deeply flawed, but she wants to be better and she attempts to redeem herself in the end, and her friend forgives her. THAT is empowering! Telling people that it’s okay to be flawed as long as you’re striving to be better means something. Telling women that they can do no wrong BECAUSE they’re women is the opposite of empowering. That just makes you a jerk. Not to mention a hypocrite.
If your movie has to be violent to “empower” women, then look at “The Long Kiss Goodnight”. Again, our protagonist is deeply flawed, doubly so. Without spoiling too much, i’ll just say that she’s got two distinct personalities and she has to overcome the flaws of them both in order to save the day.
Not for nothing, but it p*sses me off that “The Bourne Identity” gets as much credit as it does when it’s obviously a blatant ripoff of “The Long Kiss Goodnight”.
Anyway, that’s my nickel’s worth of two cents on this issue. Do with it what you will.

There’s no way around it. Redemption is the key to empowerment. Unless you’re buying into that whole perpetual victimhood narrative. Then i suppose it’s “empowering” to overcome one’s oppressors. Again, that’s just not realistic anymore. You have to do a period piece, or set the story in some third world sh*thole where women really are actively oppressed to this day. Could western women really even relate? I don’t think so.

To me it would be a film like Dolores Clayburn, nothing like the super heroine movies or chicks trying to be tough like a guy or hate guys for why they're single like the old 90s and early 2000s movies.

In Dolores Clayburn we saw a woman with a real reason to do what she did. A woman who was the real definition of strong and caring about her daughter.

For me, the most empowering aren’t revenge-torture stories, even if they feel cathartic. They’re films where women own their power without losing their humanity.

Stuff like “Erin Brockovich,” “Hidden Figures,” “Thelma & Louise,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” (Furiosa 😍), “Kill Bill,” “Whale Rider,” “Mulan,” “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” even “Barbie” recently.

They show agency, solidarity, flaws, and growth, not just payback. 💪🎬

It could be a biographical film about a woman who made history. Since it depicts a real life rather than science fiction, it would have a greater impact—like a film about a female version of Stephen Hawking, for instance.
