Music used to be everything, but now it has been relegated to a soundtrack to life as Muzak listened to in snippets on iPhone speakers and earbuds. Music lost its cultural relevance.

The modern talentless can generally dance and look good but could not hit the right notes in Twinkle Twinkle Little Star even if transposed into their most favorable key. 95% of modern music is cookie cutter pitch corrected garbage. When listening to real music by actual talent you can hear slight drifts in tempo. 120, 119, 122, etc. That is one way to know real players are performing. And even the greatest vocalists go slightly sharp or flat now and then, which makes sense if one understands the tempered vs. natural scale. The slight imperfections make it interesting. Modern music is snapped to the grid and sounds unnatural to the trained ear.

Yes, I agree, but not just because of the "everything old is new again" principle. There are fabricated artists on line that are nothing but AI, with followings! You don't need real talent to succeed in the music business like you used to.

Most music in the mainstream is fake. There are many videos explaining how modern music is made, and it is embarrassingly easy. All you need is a laptop to recreate 95% of the music that is in the current top 200 on Spotify's playlist. I know, I have done it myself. lol.

I know you're correct, which is why I rarely find new music that I love. I'm still busy digging into all my folks stuff and everything from 70's on up!

I think it's mainly a problem of over-supply. There is so much generic slop out there (including but not limited to AI slop) that good quality music is easily overlooked.

There is still great music out there, but it is so much harder to find it with the fake garbage you have to dig through first. Those in the know where to find it but the average person is clueless on that.

It's less about people's short attention spans and more about record labels being afraid of risk. Re-using a proven melody or sample is a guaranteed payout for them, so talent gets sidelined for safe, recycled formulas.
