Twins out there: Constantly being compared to my identical twin sister?

So I have an identical twin sister and I'm so tired of being compared to her all the time. She and I are best friends and love each other unconditionally, but people are driving me crazy with all their comparisons. It seems like no matter what I do, I am known as the "cute" twin while she is recognized as the "sexy" twin. It just really hurts because I don't want to be labelled/stereotyped anymore and people don't seem to understand that we are completely different people. I understand that it's only normal for people to notice and comment on our similarities, but no one seems to recognize that we also have differences that separate us. Although we get along 90% of the time, sometimes we get so competitive with each other and I honestly think it's because people pit us against each other at every turn. I'm really trying to ignore people's comments and maintain a happy relationship with my twin sister, but I just can't help but feel like I need my space. We are heading off to college in September and I'm really considering attending a different college because I want to gain independence and claim an identity that is entirely my own. On the other hand, my twin sister will be extremely hurt by this and the problem is that my decision has nothing to do with her and everything to do with the people who are constantly judging us. I don't really know what I'm expecting but I could really use some advice. Please share your own experiences about being a twin and how you handle the constant comparisons being made. Tell people to stop? Seems pretty simple. That's what my sisters did. Luckily, I didn't have to go through most of the stupid shit as them, but it's whatever. As for the college. Do what you want. Y'all are independent people. I'm a triplet and the other 2 are identical and none of us went to the same college. It also helped that they both got full rides to their schools, but still

I'm a twin and have the opposite problem.

I have a twin brother and we are very competitive, but when people think of twins, they automatically think same gender and usually identical

I do sometimes. But then I try to put myself in their shoes. Maybe if I wasn't a twin I'd assume the same.

But we do get really stupid comments and questions at times

I agree that I'd probably ask the same questions if I wasn't a twin myself lol :) The only question I hate is when people ask if we can feel each other's pain. We're not one person so I don't see how that would work but we do feel each other's emotional pain. Even if we aren't in the same location we can always sense if something is wrong with each other without even speaking. It's like a gut feeling/reaction :)

it's exactly the same for me. My sister and I are identical, and I'm tired of being considered the "weaker" one or the "less intelligent" one, we are different people.
