My ex boyfriend seems to enjoy being a jerk to me?

Well, just a bit of background...My boyfriend of 8 1/2 months broke up with me in January completely out of no where. He told me he would always love me, but just would love me as a friend, and he wanted to be friends...we go to a small school together, so I see him every day...the next week he just ignored me the whole time. I tried to treat him like everyone else, and talked to him like I would any of my other guy friends, but he wouldn't even look at me. I'd get maybe a nod, or a "ya" out of him, but that was it...Finally I talked to him, and asked him if he wanted to be friends still, and he felt bad, and said he did. He promised to make an effort...things were great for the next week. He even would randomly text me just to say goodnight, or tell me how happy he was that I was his friend...then I came to school one day and out of no where he went back to ignoring me. I asked him what was going on and he told me He had told me he wanted to be friends just to make me happy. Being friends with me didn't come natural to him. He doesn't feel like putting an effort in, and I'm graduating soon anyways, and probably won't see him much after graduation so It's not worth trying to be friends...Ever since he completely ignores me. He does stupid little 2nd grade things to prove that he's ignoring me. The thing is, I honestly didn't do anything to make him mad, or treat him poorly. I watched what I said to him, made sure I didn't always talk about how we used to be...but he just treats me like crap anyways...I don't understand why he feels the need to be a jerk to me...He'll purposefully put his back to me and talk to my friends, walk away when I come over, offer everyone else in the room except me food (which I think is funny, just Because it's very immature), and he's going to my bball games now, which when we were dating he wouldn't go to them because he hates basketball, he'll flirt with my friends and his ex girlfriend as soon as I'm around. Idk..it's just obvious that he goes out of his way to be a jerk...So, anyone have any theories of why he would do this? Or any one ever do this to a girl? I really just want to be friends so badly. I think I miss that most out of our whole relationship, but I think it's best try to not pay attention to him for now...but I just don't understand what's going on with him :(. Thanks everyone
