While I can see why a person would take it that way, and while it's inconsiderate to say, most likely it's not meant to be by that person at all and they just didn't think before speaking. It's meant as a compliment and their saying, "I'm not generally attracted to...(whatever type of person), but I am to you! So if you look at it as you're "special", attractive, hot, whatever, that compliment is what he means. But it's not usually taken that way lol. All in how you look at it. But he should phrase it differently, or, that's something you think, but keep to yourself! lol

They are both what are called 'back-handed compliments'. Any compliment which is followed by a 'for a _____' kind of takes that compliment away. Using your examples, its like they are saying black women and 'thick' women are not usually attractive and I think that is kind of insulting, especially as its not the case.

That's hard to say... It could be either... It could be, for a girl that's not skinny you have a good body or for a curvy girl you have a better body than most... It's hard to say. But you have a nice body, that can at least be seen as compliment in and of it's self

The way I see it, it's an insult. "For a black girl" and the "for a thick girl" is a huge insult meaning "I dont find those types attractive at all and normally wouldn't at all but for "you" I'll make an exception."

It's kind of like the same concept of someone saying "I wish I could find someone who's nice like you," which is just another way of saying I want someone like that but not someone that's you.

If he actually thought you were really pretty, he could have just told you "I think you're really pretty!" And hopefully not in a creepy or desperate way.

That guy may typically only be atractied to super petite instead of athletic, etc. Also, i think it isn't unusual for individuals to not be attracted to people outside their own race.
