Why doesn’t my boyfriend want me breastfeeding my daughter?

My daughter is fourteen months old. I still breastfeed her for the health benefits, the accessibility (easier than making a bottle), and the mother-child bonding experience. My boyfriend (not my child’s father) doesn’t like me breastfeeding her and is visibly annoyed when I do it— rolling her eyes and swearing under her breath.

Last night, I decided to start weaning her and I just gave her a bottle rather than breastfeeding her until she falls asleep and she screamed and cried for an hour and a half under she fell asleep. When I went to check on her again at mid-night she was still whimpering and dry heaving in her sleep. This was completely traumatizing and I feel terrible. My boyfriend told me not to worry about it and she’ll get used to it.

Why doesn’t he want me breastfeeding her? I love doing it and even his mom is supportive of me breastfeeding (in fact, she wishes she could have breastfed longer, but it was painful for her because my boyfriend was greedy as a baby).

Maybe if she were like 5 or 6, for some people breastfeeding at that older age is inappropriate or perverse. Even then it’s your choice and yours alone. But she’s barely a year old dude. Breastfeeding is such an important experience that you are 100% entitled to. It doesn’t matter what he feels, and if it bothers him so much then he needs to either step out of the room or you step out of that kind of relationship. No man on earth is worth traumatizing your daughter and robbing you of healthy bonding time. HE needs to get used to it or keep his mouth shut. Please don’t let him do this to you or your child again.

It’s your baby. He doesn’t really get to tell you what to do with her. If you think it’s giving her a better life and it isn’t hurting her then do what you feel is best. I do think If your going to ween her, before bed night not be the best time. Maybe try her midday feeding that way if she’s fussy, it doesn’t ruin her night or yours

Well as your baby should have been eating solid for 8 ish months it seems pointless

She does primarily eat solid food. However, I still nurse her typically in the morning and at night.

Why are you allowing him to dictate how you feed YOUR child , especially when the child isn’t even his? It shouldn’t matter even if he was the father !
