Am I being selfish for not wanting to hangout with my friends for a while due to finances?

Pretty much these guys wanted to hang out which I don't mind doing since I know them since high school but every time I do end up hanging out I end up spending 200 plus dollars.

I'm not saying I don't have the money but I want to save it now and start investing in stocks and savings accounts instead of spending it on dumb stuff.

I you think spending time with your friends one in a blue moon is a bad investment:

a) you should not be doing any investment at all!

b) you completely disregard how deep connections and new feedback CAN come from these once in a while

c) you don't like your friends THAT much o stopped relating to them and this crusade of yours to have whatever money you desire (*read in Netflix's "Lucifer" fashion*)

d) all of the above?

You are in really right path, financial security is always top priority, infact be proud of yourself that you can still keep differentiation on your priorities from your social life, or may be just hangout in like 2-3 months, when u get succesful or get some bonus. I meam bonuses are always nice to celebrate with friends,

Not at all selfish. It's very forward thinking and financially responsible.

That said, you may lose friends who expected you to "keep up" with the spending. But those aren't real friends.

Real friends would celebrate you taking charge and doing what you really want to with your money.

They are alright with it but like what made me say enough is enough when they wanted to do secret santa for 100 dollars each person. For 3 people that 300 dollars like wtf

Are you supposed to buy secret santa gifts for every person? I've never seen a secret santa like that. But yeah, that's ridiculous. The most expensive secret santa I've ever done was $50...

Nope. Not at all. If you don’t care after yourself noone else will. I would also be honest about it if they ask so you can do hang outs at yours or their place etc and still get jnvnited to things that don’t require money

You can hang with friends and not waste money. Have everyone chip in on beer and pizza and just have a chill night at somebody's place playing Mario kart or watching movies while you get drunk and eat pizza. No one should spend more than 10-40 $ that way.

When you truly had absolutely no money on you like i grew up, you'll find it hard to agree to go with them even if you're financially secure. Old habits die hard.

Are these friends really your friends well maybe if they they also spend the same amount very doubtful. The way it sounds you are treating them a night out. Get new friends since sharing cost is what friends do.

No we all pay for our own stuff like food extra it's just I don't want to spend the money anymore

Definitely. If you don't think they'd judge you for it, be transparent about it. Maybe more of them feel the same way. You might be able to hang out in some way that's not as costly but just as fun

Going to a park throwing the football in the yard watching sports on TV at home and working out with the weights and just socializing doesn’t cost a penny. Those are
