What is the one thing (set of things) that someone has said that’s made you instantly distrust them?

For Me, it’s quite a few:
1. Anyone that has to tell you they are rich/wealthy (having traveled and been fortunate to meet some really well of students while I studied abroad, I’ve learnt that wealth never has to tell you it is or show off so if they do it’s generally not the case🚩)
2. Anyone that has to tell you they are a good person (your demeanor and actions will speak for you).
3. When someone speaks negatively about others or large groups of people (that’s definitely an obvious one as it says a lot about them).
4. The moment someone says “trust me” or “I shouldn’t be be telling you this but”…(no confidentiality exists in that situation lol).

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with your list there. Anytime someone feels the need to clarify that they are trustworthy or to declare anything about themselves in that fashion I immediately doubt them. I once had that happen when i was conducting a job interview at a retail store I used to work at, guy introduced himself and said something along the lines of: " I'm (whatev his name was,) I'm totally cool, you can trust me." It's like that didn't even cross my mind until you said that, now I'm kind if hesitant lol...
Just saying something like that immediately brings it to the foreground of the mind, most likely someone wouldn't really question or be concerned about it at first until they bring it up. Like if I introduced myself and said: " Hello, my name is Thoth, and I'm definitely not a murderer, and I never have been! You can totally trust me :D
I would be very alarmed, distrustful, and slightly amused depending on the situation lol.

“To be honest…” anyone that starts off trying to convince you isn’t telling, in at least part, the truth. And this becomes a common phrase in their vocabulary, so the level varies. In my experience compulsive liars say things like this.

I agree with you on ALL points lol as I actually covered them to some degree in the post. I’ve never understood the mindset behind a bigot or anyone that feels the need to spew negativity about a group of any people (and it’s always the really butt hurt ones online looking for refuge from others with their hate).
