I'm kind of the opposite. I am inclined not to ask questions. For example: I'd be telling my wife about some neighbor I met and she'd ask me where he's from, what he does for a living, if he has kids, etc. And she thinks it's strange that I didn't even ask. But I didn't ask because 1) it didn't occur to me, 2) I didn't care much about that stuff, and 3) I don't want to pry or seem nosy. She would have learned all about them. I've gotten better at asking questions over the years. After all, that's how you get to know someone.
My maternal grandparents lived on a T corner of a quiet residential street. I remember that my grandmother used to constantly look out the Venetian blinds. She knew everything about her neighbors and what was going on in the neighborhood.
My mom was the ultimate spy. She spent a lot of her time in front of the kitchen sink and window. She knew all the neighbors and what they were up to. She particularly knew everything about my sister and me. She cleaned our rooms and noticed everything. She opened our doors and walked right in without knocking when we were home. She made friends with all my friends and subtly grilled them. I couldn't do anything without her knowing about it. When I got into my late teens, it was really annoying. She didn't but my balls or anything. She was just looking out for me. But damn was she nosy. She probably shared a lot of what she knew with her mom because they were very close. She talked about some things with other moms she was friends with, too. It kind of made me feel like an object or a pet who was incapable of feeling embarrassent when I found out she was talking about me behind my back and getting amusement by sharing information about me.
When my wife and I moved to this area 20 years ago, we wound up becoming members of a (liberal, nondenominational) Unitarian Universalist congregation in order to meet people. For several years it was fun as hell, we became very active and got to know everyone. Some people became very close friends and some of them knew everything about everyone and what was going on in the congregation. And I'll admit that when my wife and I got together with some of those close friends, we would talk and learn stuff about others in the congregation. That was my first experience with nosiness and I'll admit that it was fun being on the "inside".
Shortly after we joined that congregation, I got talked into joining a local environmental organization and was soon elected Board President. I did that for 6 years. In that capacity, I met lots of people, including the local Native American tribe, and became known in town. The older lady who was the Executive Director was a long time local, knew lots of people and had a lot of inside information. I also became friends with the (female) mayor and some other knowledgeable people. As a result, I learned a lot about certain members of the community.
So that experience combined with the UU congregation gave me access to lots of juicy information. But it's still not my nature to be a busy body.
That's not an easy question. I always try to stay discrete with people, but I'm very curious indeed. You know that meanwhile if you read my questions. I will nevertheless never insist if someone is not confortable with a question, and I will never force on anyone me being nosy ;0)
ABSOLUTELY... not. I just mind my own business. But if there is a problem that needs to be discussed I want to know the details. The more you know about the situation, the easier you can help the person. But that's it. I don't want to look too much in someone else's life. I still have my own to live ;)
I mean.. the occasional neighbour window watching but hey I’m only looking if you’re showing you know what I mean..
Other than that nothing crazy all are legal ways most people are being nosy like if you’re shouting a convo in public I’m probably going to listen, if you whisper I won’t bother
My problem is the exact opposite that I take absolutely no interest in such happenings. I've been oblivious to entire bouts of family drama cause I never bothered to listen and preferred to read or play video games. Still don't know what they are cause I didn't bother to ask.
As much as I'm interested in other people's thoughts and ideas, I do think my life hopefully is more interesting to me than others. Having said that, I love it when people share things with me but I do not go snoop around. Not being judgmental, mind you, if someone enjoys that, more power to them as long as they do not hurt anyone!
No but I definitely ask people I know juicy questions & disclaim I’m nosy before they answer, they usually always end up telling me after that; cause at least I was honest 😂
I'm not nosy... but people do tend to come to me and tell me stuff they can trust me with, and when they do... I don't go around telling anybody, especially at work and with family/relatives... lol
I’m not nosy. I just mind my own business but my mom on the other hand will ask a billion questions to learn everything about that person. Will stare at the neighbors from the window and knows all of their daily routines.
I try my best to mind my own business but my associates, family and friends somehow get me involved and I end up deep in the issue trying to fix things for others.
Hmm. I would say no; not really. But I hold myself back intentionally, because I know that I'm a very judgmental person. So sometimes I stick my head in the sand just because "I don't want to hear about it."
