Why are my parents so superficial and constantly boast about their money?

My dad will openly just say he had to pay £22k tax and boast about all the stuff he bought telling everyone how much it is. Even his girlfriend thinks it's cringy

I now avoid them as much as possible. I have to put up with it for a week or so because I'm waiting to start my new job down southern Scotland. Sadly I had to move back her after living abroad. I can't wait to leave now
