Thats absolutely not true.

The NES revived the video game economy after the "big video game crash" in the 1980s.

It proved to all competitors there is still a future for home consoles and thusly the NES was probably the most important console.

And there were also 60 million units sold, which puts in under the top 20 of most consoles sold in history. It sold more often than the Xbox One and twice as much as Nintendo 64.

And there were many iconic games for it, like Metroid, Zelda, Contra, Mario, Megaman, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Tetris, ...
