Is it odd to grieve over someone you didn't know personally?

A friend of my family's just died a couple days ago in a sudden accident near me, due to a failing emergency brake. I had no clue about it until today, nor did they. It's hit me hard even though I didn't know the guy personally, maybe because I've experienced a similar incident with a family member (except that one's alive), or it's because I knew he was a kind person to my family. I don't know.

It's not odd. Even if you didn't know them personally it's very different than a car accident you see on TV for example.

I saw a pedestrian get hit by a car once. Nobody else stopped so I ran out there. She was too hurt for me to do anything other than be there with her and make her more visible so other cars didn't run over her. I had no idea who she was though. She was alive when she went off in an ambulance. I found out later than she died and it hit me kinda hard. I hear about people getting killed on the news all the time and it doesn't affect me. But just being there with her for ten minutes before the ambulance arrived made a big difference. I wanted her to be OK.

I felt like that after DIO and Neil Peart died. It always seems like a loss for society when it loses folks with such vast intellects as them.

Celebrities aside there was one person I had only met once through a mutual friend. We carpooled in her car, which was in terrible condition. At the end of the night I remember telling she needed to get her car looked at cause it was dangerous.

A few months later I heard from the mutual friend that she died when her suspension collapsed on the highway and sent the car into a tree. I still never actually knew her but it hit differently knowing the only thing I ever said to her was to get her car looked at.

Chester Bennington and Robin Williams.
Linkin Park was my voice for many years. Chester's beautiful voice carried the rage and frustration I'd felt for my whole life... and for some of the same reasons I had rage... he took his own life. He's the only person I ever wept for, learning about his death, never having known him.

I grew up with Robin Williams. I miss him like a distant relative that everyone would talk about at family reunions, always hoping he'd show up so you can finally meet him and then finding out that now he'll never come.

When I was volunteering with the department around the holidays, I use to help with the crime prevention table. I wasn't feeling right for a few days, like majorly empty inside. Also I haven't heard from a friend of mine. I tried contacting her. I got no response. Even on my birthday. Again, nothing. So a few days after Christmas, her sister told me she ODed on her pain meds. I cried for days.

Maybe it is in some cases. Still happens to most people.

It is normal, since even many guys did grieve for MIcheal Jackson from different countries. So i think it is normal.
