Why are stepchildren treated like slaves?

When I was little, I once saw my aunt's step-son cleaning kitchen and then washing the dirty panties of my aunt and her biological daughter. When I asked my cousin she told me 'forget him, he's disgusting'.

Because some nasty people before marriage claim they'd look after your children, but they won't. They want their own kids, and they don't consider your kids theirs. There's always a barrier.

It's ugly.

Because they think step children aren't a part of their family and I think that's just so hurtful to a child.

I can't help but think this is common and they do not look at stepchildren the same way as their own. Absolutely some more than others and some love them just the same.

What they mean is to treat the step children terribly compared to their own kid just because they're not related.
