For the people who are interested in being independent from their parents or have already became independent how you guys and girls live you lives?

If this question is slightly confusing I will try to explain it. We all grown up somewhere and definitely know how all the adults in our lives lives there lives when we were children. Of course as kids most of us wasn't technically allowed to choose what we prefer to do instead we kinda had do whatever our parents or other adults find interesting. And of course we wasn't allowed to dress however you generally prefer due to the restrictions and rules our parents or guardian impose on us. But now as adults we are allowed to choose however we want to live our lives but it's usually deferred between people. Some people has completely restarted their lives from what their parents told them while others still doesn't mind having activities that involves with the family approval or still do activities that they have done when they were little kids.

Basically my question is if you have moved out of your parents house or are planning on being independent from your mommy and daddy will you try to completely renovate your whole life from how you were raised or do you still prefer to live with the type of life your parents have led out to you? Here are an example let say your parents were super religious and you have to grow up being religious yourself and go to somewhere like church or any other religion house like church. As an adult do you still follow the religion your parents have made you practice or change into a complete different religion or just stop following religion entirely?

Another example is of course being parents yourself are you interested in parenthood and following in your mom and dad footsteps or you not interested in having children yourself?

I have personally grown up watching how my mom and dad and my aunties and a couple of uncles rasing a family and I have claimed to the conclusion that I kinda not interested in having a family myself but that's only one of my choices what about you men and women out there? How you guys and girls want to live?

I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school through 9th grade. I attended public high school (10-12).
I was in grammar school during the 1960s when things were shaking up with the civil rights movement; anti-war and anti-draft sentiment; hippie-inspired clothing and hair styles; Haight-Ashbury; Woodstock; peace, love and dope culture; and revolutions in music. I started high school in the Fall of 1969.

My parents were great when I was growing up, but when I reached adolescence, I realized that my dad hated anything new. He wanted me to be a little "mini me". So I was in a quandary. Should I be a good little boy or should I fit in with my peers? I was basically forced to defy my dad and break away. I was always independent-minded, anyway.

I still lived at home. My dad didn't harass me or threaten to kick me out, but he became sort of apathetic toward me. We were no longer buddies.

My mom was really cool and I was very close to her.

By the time I entered high school, I was a surfer and rock guitar player. I also got my driver's license when I turned 16 and my dad gave me a car. I started officially "rebelling" later that year when, horrors!, I started letting my hair grow out. I also started partying a lot with hippies, surfers and rockers. And with my car, I had total freedom.

I had cool cars. First was a '63 Buick LeSabre 2d hard top that I christened the Bismark. Next was a '69 El Camino. And the next was a souped up, semi-race, '72 El Camino.

I was kind of wild but had hella fun.

That was my life until I was 26 and got offered a fantastic job. When I got the job, my outer persona changed but I was making great money. I soon moved out, rented a duplex, and got my own furniture. Three years later, I bought a condo.

Even though I inherited my parent's ethics, my lifestyle wasn't anything like theirs. I had gone from being a literal altar boy through 7th grade, to being non-religious. I was smoking weed, listening to rock music and going to about one concert a week, playing lead guitar and singing in rock bands, and having girlfriends. Basically living without a care. Although I did attend community college part time.

My dad had been a lead machinist for a major aerospace company. I accidentally became a motor vehicle damage field appraiser/adjuster for a great auto insurance company who gave me a free new company car every 80k-100k miles along with amazing benefits. It was a hard job but I was in the field most of the time having interesting experiences. At first I had wear suits, but later it was casual trousers and golf shirts.

The company had hired me with just a high school education. I later got my AA degree, which is more than my dad. He only graduated from high school but he was a great machinist. He fought in WWII. My mom had become a dental assistant after high school but quit when she got married.

I never had any interest in having kids and raising a family.

I was raised in a post WWII suburb but wound up moving to a house on acreage in a rural part of northern California with my wife when I was 48 after living in apartments near the ocean in Long Beach, Redondo Beach, and Point Ferman.

So my life diverged quite a bit from the way I was raised. But they served as good examples and gave me good values/ethics.

I been out of the house since I was 19-20 and when I came back to stay with my mom I was gone by 23-24 and I never really had rules mom was never really home lol so as a kid I did whatever I wanted and dressed anyway I wanted lol

It's funny because this made me think of what some people have told me. "You're nothing like your parents."
I definitely have taken on my own way of life over the years. Obviously some things I was taught still linger. Which isn't a bad thing if they're good.

My dad was very religious and strict and now I consider myself spiritual instead. Which, in my dad's point of view would probably be evil.

I've never been a rebellious person, but I do what I want ever since I became a home owner when I was 24.

I've always paid my way since then and have never depended on others to support me. I've learned ways to put my money to work instead of having to depend on a 9 to 5 completely. I feel like that's something I should be proud of. In a humble kind of way of course.
I'm thankful for how things are going.

My mom was a single mom and I love and respect her. Even so, I grew up poor and I hated it. In addition, my mom didn't like guns and she didn't like motorcycles and would not allow either in her house.

I moved out, and although it took a while, at one time I had five motorcycles in my own garage and more guns than you need to know about.

Why does one man need five motorcycles? because this is America. I amassed everything I needed long ago, but I still don't have everything I want. Having had nothing, there is plenty more that I want.

I was 18 and wanted to get out away from my parents rule of thumb. I moved several hundred miles away from my family. I went to college. And loved every minute of it. Our parents do shape our way of thinking our viewpoints. Sometimes our professions. At the end it all depends upon us. Sometimes you need to tell your parents I am my own person please let me go. I have a child that moved 1800 miles away from us she chose to go a wild way. She left her religious upbringing and move in with a great guy. Doesn't mean I stopped Loving her she just went her own way. To me as a parent it hurt. Because I am a loving parent and have unconditional love. I learned to accept my child's views and her choices. I may not like those choices but I've learned to accept them. The same will be with your parents. It's the old adage out of sight out of mind. You may need to move away from your parents. Of course give them a call visit them. Do not keep yourself aloof from them.

I think it’s a really good question and fun to think about. I guess for me, I have taken all of the good things my parents have taught me and I use them in my own way. We live very different lives and do things differently but with similar outcomes if that makes sense. Comparing it to driving, they take route A, I take route B, but we make it to the same destination
