Why do you think people may find it difficult to look at matters from other points of view?

Ego, afraid of their opinions being challenged or possibly disproven, the need to be right, etc. There are a lot of reasons. Which is why it is almost pointless to discuss controversial topics because they become too emotionally charged and insulting to one another with no compromise to be had.

People have to be right and overcoming ego is difficult.
