What Childhood Experience Weakens You?

When I was little like 7 in school, I found a classmate's book that was missing.

She opened it and accused me of writing in it. I was shocked and denied it.

The teacher checked everyone's writing and concluded mine was a match. Then she put me before the class and made everyone shame me and I was crying.

She also kept me kneeling before the class for like 30 minutes. I cried a lot during the punishment. I will never forget that day till I die. I was very shy back then so I didn't tell my parents what happened when I got home traumatized.

Still makes me want to cry even now cause I didn't do it. But it taught me early that the world was not all nice.

I was bullied a lot growing up because of my ethnicity (Chinese/Irish), it wasn’t just children bullying me it was also adults. I understood that I was different by the way I looked (facial features/ skin colour), I couldn’t fully comprehend why these people were saying racial slurs towards me. I was raised in a proud Irish household, my mother/father were Irish. My biological father is Chinese and he wasn’t involved in my life. My parents were open about my birth father and that I was Chinese, I could never identify as Chinese. I think that’s do with the fact I didn’t grow up in a Chinese household or learning about Chinese culture. It still affects me to this day, as I have a lot of questions that go unanswered.

I didn't cry or anything, but it was an unsettling early lesson of the power one has when you're friends with everyone in your class. A classmate that I stood up to about cutting in front of me in the lineup asked me one day if I sincerely thought I was stronger than him. I said yes. We were in a lineup at that moment with our classmates. He then stepped out of the lineup, and told everyone to shift over with him. The result was that I was no longer in the lineup.

my years of being physically abused by the principal at school.

that has cemented my resolve to ensure my daughters never tolerate any abusive behavior, they can defend themselves with words or physically if need be, and that they will tell us immediately if there is any questionable behavior so we can deal with it.

it sucked for me as a kid but it guaranteed that it will not happen to my kids.

Classroom-related... trying to give my report on Vikings and how they didn't have horns on their helmets... talk about free ranged hate that the teacher didn't even bother to stop any of it.

I'd say it was trying to play a video game and turning left didn't work on the controller. Nobody believed me... and shamed me. They found out when I refused to play anymore.

I was picked on when I was a kid. In 9th grade I started weight training and by my junior year both the track coach and the football coach asked me to try out for the team. I was big enough so nobody ever picked on me again.
