Do you give $ to family kids on New Years / Lunar New Years?

Chinese family gets together to celebrate the lunar new year and each adult gives money to each kid. They pass on the wealth and prosperity. Part of this is explaining what to do with money.

Do other families do this?

I never had this growing up, I was totally dunce about money and had to learn the hard way.

I think in most Asian traditions people celebrate New years in month of April as based on lunar calender.

But it's more celebration in terms of exchanging of foods and snacks and celebrating together

Money it's on persons will , we still consider money as something big.
Some elders do give money to children if they visit them doesn't have to be new years or anything special kinda a token of love.

The lunar calendar is nowhere as consistently accurate as the solar calendar; and also you're dead wrong, it's celebrated anywhere from January to February

For a nation obsessed with money there's sure a lot who don't have any.

we are generating inequality by way of a disfunctional education system. We allow kids to fail and then suffer, more than ever, high education is required to get the good paying jobs... or starting businesses can do it. But that is largely driven by parents. Kids without parents and resources fall behind.
That's the problem in addition to endless govt theft and cron y capitalism.
But I don't see it stopping...

I'm glad you found a friend. Terrible, sorry to hear of the broken trust. Maybe a "godsend" before wedding than after. Just a sign he's got issues... I know someone who went forward with wedding in spite of warnings and she regretted it. Not all guys like that, hope you get to better place.

Yes my grandfather and my uncles and ants gave me money for vow down traditional way. They gave me like 1 dollar 2 dollar 3 dollar. I used to make 20 dollars which was enough to buy candies
