You and I are siblings. You 10 year old son. Your son is my nephew. Your son (my nephew) stole from me. He stole my credit card and two cans of sodas from me. As a result of my taking stuff from me without I pressed serious police charges against my nephew, one Grand Larceny charge for my credit card, and one Petit Larceny charge for my two sodas. Your 10 year-old son (my nephew) was placed under arrest and is now jail. He'll have to go before a judge and will most likely be serving serious detention time for what he did. I figured since your 10 year-old wants to be an adult, he wouldn't mind joining me in an adult game. So now I brought him to justice, and he's sitting in jail crying his eyes out. Your the parent of this child. Where do you stand? What would you do?

You are a nasty vindictive person. A 10yo who steals needs guidzncexand counseling, not jail time. I would dissociate myself from you... you are exiled from my family.

More importantly, I would get the best lawyer I can and get my son out of jail.

And shame on your child for taking things that are not theirs. They might well do worse things murder, in which case he'll be in solitary confinement if not death row. Tell your child to never steal from people lest people disown him or her.

This is only a hypothetical situation. I am not aware of any civilized country that would put a child into jail for such a minor misdemeanor.

And if the US puts children to jail together with criminals, rapists and murders, then I have one more reason never to travel to the US.

@SueShe Where I live, stealing credit cards is a Felony. I seen a kid get jailed for that. Stealing sodas is a misdemeanor. And because they're kids, that's why we have juvenile rooms and detention centers (kid jail/kid prison).

Can people under 13 go to jail?
Although most states allow a juvenile of 8 years old to be sent to jail, it is only in rare cases that they are sent there. However, in some states, there isn't an age limit for a child to be sent to jail. In fact, the decision is left up to the judge to decide. One of these states is California.
