My Sister in law was recently diagnosed Autistic at aged 31 how is this possible?

I don't understand. We know she has anxiety disorders etc and PTSD. But autism? At her age! how could it be missed for that long. I definitely think it's inaccurate. She would of been diagnosed in school. I've told her to ask for another opinion. What do you all think.

Well, autism isn't something that goes away or gets better; if she had it when she was born, she still would. If that's what surprises you, it shouldn't. If it's that it went undetected so long, that makes more sense- but only so much so. If it's not particularly severe, it could easily be unnoticed, especially if she's got other stuff going on, like anxiety disorders and PTSD, say. Girls also tend to have subtler autism symptoms, and most of the research (for resultant reasons) is done on boys, so experts are more likely to be familiar with male symptoms.

Of course, that doesn't mean it ISN'T wrong, just that it's not as unbelievable as you may think.

Autism in women and girls is often overlooked, so it’s not surprising she got a late diagnosis, especially if her parents didn’t take action to seek an accurate diagnosis in her childhood. I wasn’t diagnosed until 18 🤷‍♀️


One of the reasons suggested why girls are often overlooked or ignored is because girls don’t present the typical symptoms of autism as boys do, or are at least quieter about it. They also tend to be better at hiding symptoms.

it's called being undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and her probably masking so damn much she burned herself out and is showing signs of autism. her situation is very common. especially in women.

I would never necessarily believe ANY medical diagnosis in these insane EndTimes we are in. Trust in Jesus and what the Holy Spirit tells you.
