When I'm invited to someone's house they usually ask the guest to remove shoes. I think hosts expect everybody to wear socks so I don't feel comfortable being barefoot. Maybe I'm making a big deal.
I'm the type that asks. Even if I've known my best friend for nearly 20 years, I wear my shoes in her house. Most of the time she says I'm welcome to take them off, and sometimes I'll ask her permission if I can.
Still says yes. Even if I myself don't wear socks either.

What you can do is provide everyone with a pair of socks / sockettes with the rubber tread on the bottom, to wear when they come over. It may cost you a little money, but it is cheaper than a deep carpet cleaning if someone comes in with dog doo on their shoes.
I Asia, it's just the opposite - rude to wear shoe into the house. Bare foot is acceptable. Socks is ok.
No, we have people take their shoes off when they come over.
The house also stays cleaner.

I think it’s weird to care. That guest is comfortable with your house enough to do that and that should make you happy.
No, I don't think so.
I don't like barefoot people
