Is my friend implying that I give her more expensive gifts?

She texted me this morning, pointing out that my gifts to her were small, that she’s not getting any other gifts except money from her parents, for a birthday dinner. Was she trying to imply that I’m being cheap? We both have expensive tastes, but I come from a richer family and have nicer things; however, it’s my family who have money. I’m as poor as she is; and I’m trying to volunteer, trying to get a job, since I lost my last job during covid, while I’m on the dole. I have lots of family and many friends to buy gifts for, including four friends that are closer. Meaning I’ve got about 4 casual friends to shop for, that I have to buy smaller, cheaper gifts for. Meanwhile, I’m trying to afford my diet food, which I need for health reasons, while trying to save some money to give my parents, to give something back. By next Easter.

That's messed up of your friend to say like that. First off it's not even about the money or how expensive the gifts are, it's the thought that counts ya feel me?

Seems like she was lowkey trying to guilt trip you hard into getting her something flashier just cause your fam ballin'. But she don't know your situation personally like that.

My advice would be keep it real - tell her straight you appreciate her but money tight right now since you looking for a job and stuff. let her know her comment came off kinda selfish and you givin what you can afford same as always.

True friends ain't bothered by the price tag, just wanna see you happy on your day. If she can't respect that then she ain't really your real one luv. Keep doin you, focus on saving up and your health - don't stress random comments from people.
