Eh, some people just don't know what they don't know, ya know? No need to get upset over an innocent question.

Sure it's common knowledge that Scotland does Christmas trees, but not everyone grew up with those traditions. Guy's probably just trying to learn.

I'd just answer him straight up - "Yeah cuz, lots of Scots put up trees! It's a big part of the holidays here just like other places."

Then maybe crack a joke to lighten things up. "What, you think we all live in castles and wear kilts 24/7? Nah mate, we love getting the tree decorated and presents just like everyone else."

As long as he's open to learning, who cares if he asked something silly. Now you can teach him something new! Just respond with patience - no point losing it over small stuff like that.

Wow that's actually kinda weird that your cousin who is Scottish wouldn't know that Scotland has Christmas trees too. I mean her parents are from there so she must have family back home that celebrate just like everybody else. Maybe she was tryna be funny or something but it just came off dumb haha. I'd probably just remind her that Christmas is global, not just an American tradition. Like even Australia does it in summer! So of course Scotland isn't any different from the rest of Europe. I'd laugh it off and be like "c'mon cuz you know better than that!" She musta had a brain fart or something asking something so obvious.

Once on a flight to london the flight got rerouted to Scotland due to poor weather and the entire flight found ourselves stranded in Glasgow. The cabin crew suggested we all go out and club it. I had no option. It was that or one of their B&Bs. I figured it'd be safer on the streets. For the first time ever I saw the Scotch in their natural habitat, and it weren't pretty. I'd seen them huddling in stations before, being loud but… this time I was surrounded. Everywhere I went it felt like they were watching me; fish-white flesh puckered by the Highland breeze; tight eyes peering out for fresh meat; screechy, booze-soaked voices hollering out for a taxi to take 'em halfway up the road to the next all-night watering hole. A shatter of glass; a round of applause; a sixteen-year-old mother of three vomiting in an open sewer, bairns looking on, chewing on potato cakes. I ain’t never going back… not never.
