I don't think it's rude, but it will be noticed. I never went myself, but I sometimes went to other company events like summer picnics or whatever. Politically it's good to go to those things - team player and all that. But I suspect most people don't go.

If you do go, do NOT get drunk. Even if everyone else is drinking, don't get drunk at company events.

Nope, I never attended any parties when I used to work in office settings
I just had 1 or 2 close friends from the office and we would rather hang out at someone's home rather than the boring parties
