Why do toxic parents think they are entitled in their children's life?

You mistreat your children and don't treat them well - why do toxic parents think they have a right in their children's life? Clearly the adult children don't want you in their lives.. toxic parents want access in their kids life... disrupt the little peace and happiness that these adult children have, especially if with a romantic mate. I've seen toxic parents overstep boundaries especially if the adult children have cut off the parents like no contact and no visitation..

I will not be taking care of my family if they're sick and old as they were not good parents nor treated me well as a child and even as an adult. I don't want them included in my life moving forward. They don't understand that they won't be included ( marriage, etc )

i have dealt with this issue my entire life and still am dealing with it. it's a horrible feeling. parents like this have no life and want to live vicariously through their children because they're jealous. some major mental issues there

i would also like to add that parents like this see their children as an extension of themselves so they feel like they can have control over them whether they like it or not

Being so entitled itself is a form of being toxic. I have a really toxic household and it gets very annoying
