Being toxic is it's own thing.
Parents can be overprotective and toxic or not toxic.

As victims of sexual abuse as kids we are very protective of our kids. But we've also had enough friends with kids so they had plenty to play with and lots of social interaction. Both of our daughters were born with a congenital defect and suffered a lot of illness as small children. They missed a lot of school. So we ended up homeschooling then for a few years.

As the illnesses stopped we put them back into school. Being older they were more aware of their surroundings. If they were invited to a sleepover it was only to houses where we had met the parents, knew where they lived, had their phone numbers and I'd check the sex offender registry.

When our kids started to complain we didn't tell them the details of the abuse but we told them that we'd been abused. Not to scare them. To convince them that the threat is real and manageable.
    "Don't be scared, be prepared."
I was the safety officer in almost every unit in which I served. You can do lots of really dangerous and deadly stuff if you have the appropriate safeguards in place.
Survivors of abuse don't have to sit in isolation because the world is too scary.
So we've taught our daughters as much as we could and we can only protect them so much.

Toxic parents can exhibit their behavior in many different ways. Being protective isn't a bad thing in and of itself. I'm sure there are lots of little kids who've been raped and molested and kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery and murdered that wished their parents had been a little more protective.

I'm not saying that all victims were because of neglectful parents... but some definitely were.

As a little kid we want to experience we want to grow we want to be mature we want to understand things and the only way that we could understand there is to experience them and when we get held back and held back and held back from her parents it makes us want to experiencing even more because that's who we are when raising a child you have to build the foundation that is strong is independent and if you take that away from them you create a weak Foundation they're going to resent you for that most kids have a good head on their shoulders and know right from wrong but when you treat them as if they don't know anyting that's when you feel and that's when the kid is going to go the opposite direction there's a fine line a lot of parents go overboard on that fine line

yes they are definitely toxic!, if you have a kid your duty as a parent is to look after them, instill great morals while raising them, teach them how to become beneficial members of society and teach them how to take proper care of themselves and others!

being a parent is hard but if you do decide to have kids you must go the extra mile to ensure that you discipline them appropriately and that you are not too strict/overprotective of them so that they can grow up to be strong, honest, independent, wise, etc. beings who benefit society.

    being strict or overprotective is bad for your child because;
    1. being strict will make your child a liar and a rebel especially towards your strict rules and teachings or they'll end up being strict themselves and rigid or hyperactive, aggressive, and antisocial!.
    2. being over protective could lead to your child risking aversion, having a dependency on the parents, a higher risk of psychological disorders, a lack of strong coping mechanisms, and chronic anxiety.

Not with perspective. If they keep in mind all that is rooted in love, it can give strength. They aren’t alone, so many people are. Much harder to go it alone. Behavior can always get parents to ease up.

Yes in a way like I had over protective parents and they always kind of tried to solve a situation for me when I messed up in terms of school.
They always looked after me to prevent me from sleeping too long and they also made me breakfast.
I never had to work for anything.
The problem with that is that I didn't learn to solve a problem on my own. I always could go to them and they did it for me.
That's a way childhood can work but as soon as this time is over problems arise.

Toxic? To be that they would have to be REALLY "helicopter parents" in spades.

My parents shielded me from a lot of things, but learning about them would have made things go a bit more easily later in life, in my opinion. I had it a bit too easy. I held back on giving my daughters life handed to them on a platter. I was more strict- but fair- dealing with them.

Not really toxic just not good for self esteem and Confidence, Which is sort of how I grew up but I don't really blame my Parents.

Yes, the "over" in "overprotective" pretty much says it all.

Depends on where you live, but more importantly, if they hear you out, it's a better than them imposing things on you just to be 'protective'.
