I think being able to spend time with grandchildren lengthens the lives of grandparents and also, allows them to feel needed and helps child feel loved and cared for unconditionally.

I think the two questions are related! If the only value a woman feels is through two qualities that have nothing to do with intrinsic value: youth and beauty, of course a woman, OR a man for that matter, will be afraid of growing old.

The real beauty of a person comes from wisdom, intelligence, a fine personality and solid personal values: integrity, kindness, loyalty, a sense of humor, joy. Those qualities aren't lessened if or when youth and beauty fade.

In fact, some of most beautiful older people emanate beauty through their smiles and eyes and remain beautiful for a lifetime. It's not the perfect, polished beauty of a lineless face, but a beauty that grows and becomes grand with time, like the beauty of a magnificent oak or cypress, or majestic mountain.

For the same reason, it's valuable that your children know their grandparents if possible because their wisdom and experience give them something a busy parent can't: time and relaxation that a parent might not be able to offer.

My father taught my 10 year old how to play poker. I was in graduate school writing papers and attending classes at night. Teaching card games to anyone wasn't in my wheelhouse. Neither was playing cards. But 10 year olds are better for learning to play poker. My son, now 28, wins at poker games with his cronies all the time. Gives him street cred and some spare change! People LOVE him!

Grandparents are invaluable resources. They intro your kids to another level of family, different foods, old school values, and unconditional love that isn't available from parents, who are busy making money and doing their adult thing, hustling in the real world. Whereas grandparents are farther along on the "life" scale.

They are able to impart wisdom without struggle. This is the gift of age. And if you CAN offer that to your kids, do it. I was lucky enough, and my son had a great relationship with his grandfather, whom we talk about regularly, 12 years after his death.

It's like a second set of parents, and how often do you get that? Plus grandparents have a vested interest in the success of their grandchildren: it helps their children succeed too! And grandparents take great pride in a new generation of people, other than their immediate children, being associated with them.

I plan to do most of the raising of my grandchildren, because I'll have a ton of free time and am over qualified for the job. My kids came out great, so I expect the same if grandkids. Plus, I love kids! ❤️

I don't think it should be expected or an obligation though. Some grandparents can't physically, mentally, or financially handle it and shouldn't be expected to.

Also, I'm not at all afraid of aging. Partially because women in my family don't age much until we are are at least 60-70. People still think we are all much younger. My partners say I'll only look 40 at 60.

Plus, aging is beautiful. I think some older women are absolutely STUNNING. White hair and salt and pepper hair are very striking features. Older skin can be so soft and delicate. So, maybe aging gracefully should get a bit more admiration. 🤔 Aging not so gracefully may not be as visually appealing, but every wrinkle, spot, and ache were hard earned through a life well lived. 😉

I would personally like my mom to be involved in my kids lives if I'm ever lucky enough to find a partner and have kids. But the choices I make for them would be up to me and my partner and she should respect our decisions decisions as they're our kids.

I think it's good for grandparents to be involved with their grandchildren. But they shouldn't interfere with what the parents want for their children. Like if the parents have different values than the grandparents, the grandparents shouldn't try putting their values on the grandchildren.

Yes I am.. Unfortunately there's a lot of ageism in society. The younger you are, the better people treat you. They're also more understanding and forgiving to your mistakes and friendlier towards you. The older you are, the less opportunities you're offered. It's sad that society puts so much emphasis on looks and age. Unfortunately ageism is a form of discrimination that's deemed okay by people.. I hope some day this change.

I'm very excited about getting older because my youth really hasn't been anything of value to me.

And nah I think only parents should raise their kids. Grandparents can do fun activities with the kiddos but not raise them.

Grandparents are very important in their grandchildren's lives. Their warm attitude, focusing more on what kids want than need, life experience wrapped around bedtime stories, and unlimited patience. All of it is priceless. And they simply are, when parents sometimes are busy with solving life issues.

Never had concerns for physical beauty as I’m getting older. I’d be more concern about making sure I’m living my life fully the way I want, creating memories, taking care of my health. Hoping I have enough time with my parents as they’re getting older. To be a part of my nieces and nephew childhood as they growing up so fast. Hoping I’m able to leave the world with the impact I dream of while I’m still here.

Not at all. Good genes run in my family. I’m in my 30s and still look great, wear the same size I used to wear when I was 22 and people think I look younger than my actual age. I believe I’m still going to look good for many years. Aging is part of life.
