Why do old people always act like parents to the young?

I moved out of my abusive parents house to live with an older guy in his 50s. I am 28. And he does the same things my parents do such as vaccum the house, remind me of the weather before i go out, hangs my belt if he sees it on the floor, hangs my clothes if it is on the floor, tells me to stay safe when im out at night, spends a lot of time in kitchen. Are all old people this way? He acts exactly like a parent but he has no kids

Yo, older folks definitely tend to slip into more parent-like roles sometimes. I think it's just cause they've been taking care of people for so long, it becomes habit.

With this guy, since you said your parents were abusive, he might just be tryna show you a positive parenting example that he hopes will help. Like, showing care without controlling you. Handing your clothes and stuff is just how some people show they want you to feel cared for in your space.

As long as he's not overstepping your boundaries or being too demanding, I'd say try to appreciate the little gestures as coming from a place of wanting you to feel safe and at home. Maybe have a talk if any certain things start bugging you.

My advice would be, this dude opened his home to you, so try cutting him some slack on the dad habits unless they cross a line. He's probably just looking out for you in his own way. Let me know if it gets worse over time tho!

Lol well damn, I do that too ☠️ I see it as nurturing, I do that with my friends and others too lol. Just wanna make sure they’re safe and being thoughtful. I think it’s good to appreciate his kindness and care towards you.

My aunty also does that to me. She treats me like I’m her baby lol. I think it’s also like they don’t have kids of their own or no longer do, so they’re being caring as if you’re the kids and they’re just really nice :)
