What’s it like to have married parents?

My father was in my life until I was 12 but my parents never got married. My father was a drug dealer, died while he was incarcerated. I miss him dearly. What’s it like to have married parents, especially growing up with married parents as a child? I had to do most things on my own due to the fact that my mother was an addict. I never really had security growing up. I had to sleep in shelters, trains, which I didn’t like that much.

i can imagine that it'd be nice. not having the kid to do all of the depending on. just being happy all the time, going out to family events, doing family dinners, etc.

It's having a great example of a married couple. I'm married now and I often think what would my parents do in xyz situation? They're a great example for me.

Some people have crappy parents even if they're married. But in a functional family it's really nice to do things as a family.
