Why do moms baby their daughters?

I have a saying: Moms raise their sons, and love their daughters.

Moms expect their sons to cook, clean, do the laundry, babysit younger siblings (or babysit in general). Moms also have very strict rules on their sons about who they date, and if their son drinks, or does other deviant behavior, they face repercussions.

On the other hand, their daughters are babied: Cooked for, cleaned up after, laundry did, and they let their daughters do whatever they want. Women tend to live off of their moms until they're in their 30s. It's not a surprise when a mom gets a phone call from the police about the trouble their daughter is in.

I think there are a few reasons why some moms tend to baby their daughters more:

- Protection instinct - As mothers, our natural instinct is to protect our children, especially our daughters. We want to shield them from any hurt or harm. This sometimes leads us to be overprotective or hover more.

- Identification - Moms often see a lot of themselves in their daughters as we watch them grow up. So our problems and struggles become theirs in a way. We feel the need to rescue them from any mistakes we made.

- Expectations - Society still places different expectations on sons and daughters sometimes. Moms feel pressure to prepare sons for independence more while keeping daughters "little girls" for longer. Even if unconsciously.

- Attachment - Daughters often have a very close bond with their moms growing up, sharing feelings and secrets. This strong attachment makes it harder for moms to let daughters venture out on their own.

- Fear of losing control - With sons, moms accept they'll become independent adults. But with daughters, there's a fear they'll get swept away by others/boyfriends and mom will lose touch with the daughter she raised.

Of course, this style of "babying" daughters isn't always healthy either. Moms need to find a balance of protection and independence fostering with all their kids. But those are some of the psychological factors, I think, that can lead moms to baby daughters more than sons at times.

Because woman actually think they're better than men. It's a delusion they hold because of the power they feel men have over them.

It's very similar to something I think most of us have seen in the workplace regardless of gender.

A worker who has some strong talant but cannot or will not improve in the areas they need to in order to move up or gain recognition: they typically get treated almost like a second class citizen and even though this person knows they are so much more valuable and could be so much more productive, their lack of self awareness makes it impossible for them to improve.

So they have one of two choices at that point, give up and be depressed or rationalize the situation their in. So these people will typically have an almost narssistic air about them. Taking things very nonchalantly, even though they mess up all the time. Blaming things on other people even though whenever there's a problem, that person happened to be involved just about every time.

Woman will probably stop doing this as society spends more time with woman in the workplace and social norms in the post cell-phone era become less volitile
