To help struggling families and to be generous to the community, not just helping your family?

I think it is , say particularly for me here in Thailand , some are very poor , sometimes you just see some incredible efforts ( old lady on a bike collecting cardboard and bottles ) , even 7/11 staff working 10 hours a day , no one tips them..

I just try to give as many as possible 20 baht , as often as possible , but that's if they are actually trying ( most are ) , they don't expect it , and really appreciate it because not many give them anything. Treat people nicely , be respectful , but that does not mean confirmation of USA tipping system , where all you are doing is subsidizing the fat cat restaurant owner.

Its important to look beyond that self righteous , chest beating bs...

Help people in all ways when they least expect it , or are excluded.

I would say yes as long as it ain’t a burden on yourself and your family and that the money or gift contributed is made without any expectation it should be used for something. Sometimes, it may be more helpful to buy the groceries or gifts to the struggling family rather than to give money cause then if you see the money is spent elsewhere, it can totally trigger you.

Being generous towards anyone can make you feel fulfilled.
