It’s definitely a factor, but it’s not the only factor. You can put a lot on a person’s parents when they’re young; even as young adults. But the older you get, the more important it is that you take responsibility for the kind of person you are and the kind of person you want to become. You don’t get to keep scapegoating mommy & daddy. No matter how good or bad they were.
Not many people can claim worse parenting than Dave Pelzer. That dude turned into a kind, generous and productive member of society. If he can do it, anyone can.
