Am I wrong for not having vegan options at my family BBQ?

So, here is the story, I had a family BBQ last weekend, we invited everyone in the family who were reasonably close by. My wife's cousin, who I hadn't seen in years, who I had no idea was vegan, showed up with his parents. He (though the idiot uses they them pronouns which I refuse to use), while I was cooking asked if I had any vegan options. I said beyond the salad, no. He threw some insults at me, and I suggested he could buy his own food and grill it him self if his attitude was going to be like that or he could sit down and stfu. He went and told my wife, who came to get my side, suffice it to say she agreed with me. So the vegan, and his parents left the BBQ and told me they would be unlikely to visit me again. I said "don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you" and returned toy grilling.

Am I wrong here? Should I have somehow been psychic and known that I had a vegan coming to my family BBQ?
