i dont have kids but if i did i think a little bit. I think i'd let my son go outside alone at an earlier age and i'd care less about where he's going and what he's doing out and about as long as he gets good grades and doesn't seem to be into drugs or hanging out with bad influences. I wouldn't really care if he hangs out with girls or seems to be dating or having sex even if it's early like 13yo unless it seems he was being preyed on by an adult. I think i'd be less protective and coddling because since he's a boy he needs to toughen up a bit.

for my daughter i'd definitely be more scared of letting her go around alone unless she really understood the whole dangers of the world. i'd police her outfits more. i'd also check her social media more to make sure she's not talking to older boys or pedophiles. i'd check on her a lot more outside and she'd have a stricter curfew. Though i'd trust her a lot more to stay at home alone, and i'd be more likely to give her expensive stuff, a car etc than with a boy since she'll be more careful.

As they grow, parents most grow with them… based on how they are as a person… no two kids are the same.
My kids always wanted to know if they are my favorite or test me by saying I like one over the other… I laughed … I said of course… if one gets in trouble I had to explain why… I can’t punish both because one did something wrong.
I always remember the times when I had to disciple one.. when the other complain I like one more… I said I did yell at the other… kids forget and think they are not being treated fairly… I have enough evidence to show them that I discipline both based on their behaviors.

I'm the permissive parent so I say yes to anything anyway. Thats what makes the hesitations and no's more prominent. Absolutely. Despite what they teaching in high schools these days your son ain't going to come home pregnant at 14 or get a secret abortion at 16 that causes health problems, less likely to get raped, more likely to be able to defend themselves, more likely to be able to handle a crisis situation.

But then I'd be more likely to buy my daughter a car, let her live at home in her twenties, support or help her financially as an adult.

Don't have kids yet, but if I did I wouldn't necessarily treat them differently. I'd feel them out and their comfort levels. Like when playing with my son and daughter and tossing them into the air or flipping them, I'd see if they find it fun or not and if they don't I probably wouldn't play rough with them in the future. I'd give them the same kinds of talks, although I'd probably relate to my son more than my daughter just because it would be a male perspective. I'd know how to talk to him a little better. You learn as you go though.
