Trending & News Absolutely not. I have my dignity and self-esteem and don't need to find a picture of myself on some dark porn site just because a male pervert has the urge and need to take pictures of naked women and children alike.
There are enough females that don't think further than the tip of their noses that are willing to do it but count me out. I think with my brain and not with my genitals.
Europe is certainly not a model continent when it comes to protecting women from perverts and that would be a prime example of something that should be addressed.
@jjj101010 Absolutely not. There are perverts and voyeurs that roam those beaches and take pictures of women and children and put them on the internet.
That is why I totally oppose any topless beaches and hope that governments will intervene about it and make a law to prohibit topless public beaches.
Thanks for your answer and point of view. However, I would invite you, if you ever make it to Europe, to go to the beach and find out for yourself. No one would ever ask you to go topless, some women do, other don't. Most of us are OK with that, men and women alike.
Branding Europe as a continent where everyone is a pervert and not protecting women's rights is a point of view I do not share.
You ought to be more precise, in my opinion. You give the impression that all of Europe is one nation acting uniformly. It's just not accurate. Yes, they accept nudity more in France and Spain, but I've also read a lot of horrifying accounts of people being catcalled in France more than any other country in Europe apart from maybe Italy. Not that they both lineup together, but incidents like this certainly encourage people to believe that they can mistreat women without repercussions.
@RageBabe Europe is definitely not uniform, I agree with you on that. In my home country, Spain, it is quite common, although it's changing with the younger generations. Part of that may be fear of getting photographed. We all take our cell phones to the beach these days. I would say it's getting less common with the younger generations. Even in Spain, you will see it more on the coasts of Cadiz and also on the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands. Less so on the other coasts.
In France, it used to be quite acceptable in the 1990s and 2000s. It has been changing there too, but I've never heard of anyone being harrassed in any way. You will typically see women of 40 or 50 years old being topless and their daughters in a two piece bikini.
I hear it's not so common in Italy. In Germany, women will sunbathe topless in parks. Saunas in Germany and Belgium have special days where attendance is mixed and everyone is naked. No one bothers with towels.
I know I mentioned Spain in my original post, but that was referring to the nude part. I haven't actually read anything bad about the Spanish when it comes to catcalling; the article I read said this was a big problem in France and Italy. Spain, as we all know, has the reputation of its people being passionate lovers, and that's not a bad thing; that's a great thing. Who doesn't want a passionate lover?
We do it all the time for our hot-tub get-togethers. We don't have immature friends.
Thanks for your answer. Somehow, part of the question I asked was clipped away. This is the full argument I wanted to post.
Being topless on European beaches, especially France and Spain, is quite common. Anyone who lives over here or has visited can testify to that. Women of all ages go topless: younger girls in their twenties, women with their partner and kids, it's just so common no one really cares.
My question is twofold:
1. How do you feel as a girl being topless in the presence of male friends, either your own friends or your boyfriend's/husband's male friends? Are you comfortable with that or does it feel awkward? I'm assuming there is mutual respect, just being on the beach with several guys and girls and being topless because you don't want to get tan lines. There are no awkward stares from any of the guys in your group, just everyone minding their own business.
2. How do you feel as a guy if your girlfriend/wife takes off her top in the presence of your male friends or her male friends? Same situation as before, everyone is confortable and there is mutual respect. Would you be OK with it if she wanted to go to the beach with some of her male friends and you can't make it that day? Would that make you feel jealous?
Interesting what you say. My wife is OK with being topless on a beach full of strangers, but is much more reluctant to do so when we meet up with friends. Family members, and especially older family members, is out of the question and I can fully understand that. But with strangers, she kind of enjoys the attention she gets.
How close a friend would he have to be for you to feel totally comfortable?
As a man only at beach never with pals or gals at homes as a guest.
