Ladies, if it was legal to go topless, would you?

For the ladies, if you don't already live somewhere where it's legal, let's say the law changed and you could freely go topless - and not just in designated areas like nude beaches. Would you?

Guys, would you truly be comfortable with this if you lived some place where it currently is not legal, but suddenly was? Keep in mind how you might feel if your girlfriend or mother could just walk around you and others showing their breasts?

I'm female: NO, I would not do it, and wouldn't feel comfortable seeing it.

I'm female: NO, I would not do it, but don't care what others do.

I'm female: YES, I would do it, and don't care if other females do it either.

I'm male: NO, though I love boobs, but probably wouldn't be entirely comfortable with it.

I'm male: They're just body parts, let people do what they want, I wouldn't make an issue of it.

I'm male: YES, I am too attracted to boobs to turn this down. I wish I could see them all the time.

I was around 20 when I attended my first nude beach. When I married, my wife joined me in attending nude beaches, and a bit later we gained membership at nude resorts. So I can honestly say that guys can accept other guys seeing their wives not only topless, but also nude. But I was the only guy that could touch! Where it was acceptable, it did not feel wrong. And my wife's view, as she stated to people a few times, was that not only could I look at other women, but she expected me to. If I reached a point where I was not interested in looking, then I would be too decrepit for her. But it was "look but don't touch" for me, too, and that was fine because I would not want to touch others.

So it would have been fine for us, though one other thing that you have not yet included... Not only would a woman's personal modesty decide if she would do this, but she would still have to maintain proper decorum for her friends, church associates, etc. So she enjoyed the nude beaches and resorts, but would avoid doing that in public because of expectations of people who were important to her.

And you have not told us how you would act if it were legal. Would you be open to going topless, or open to going that way if large numbers of women went with it?

I have no issue with it. Europeans have been nude around each other forever. However, out of respect to others in countries that aren't used to it, I've seen how some guys get when they spot a pair of boobs and they seem turn in to frat boys over them. I think for those places, they should open up more places where someone can be nude, and allow them to also be nude in their homes and in their yards. As it stands now, if a neighbour spots someone nude in their backyard and is visible to the public, in some countries like US and Canada they can be charged with indecent exposure. To me, countries that aren't ready for it should ease in to this so people can be used to it, and allow those who don't wish to see it to be able to go to other public places where they know they won't.

I notice you did not answer if YOU would be open to going topless. :-) Yes, the "frat boys" do get obnoxious in some places. "The Ugly American" still lives! Oregon allows nudity in places and circumstances where you are not offending others... basically go where you are not forcing yourself on others (they may be around but are not a "captive" audience) and you are not being obscene (sexual displays the intentionally arouse or offend others). We have two beaches (river) legally designated and signed "clothing optional".

When living in the Bay Area (San Francisco), one could often see women sunbathing topless in city parks without offending anyone.

Realistically I doubt all girls would want to be topless in public, it would only be like 30% who would do it. Now the way I see things playing out would be that the girls who choose to "free their nipples" would get a lot more attention from guys than the girls who don't. Guys would want to hookup with the girls who walk around topless but would prefer to date the girl who keeps herself covered. Most guys aren't going to want their girlfriend to be one of the 30% who shows her boobs off to the world.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I see things playing out. It's kind of an all or none sort of thing.

Good answer. This is sort of what I thought most guys would think. That's why I included the question if going topless applies to all women - that includes your girlfriend and female relatives. Had I not mentioned that, I don't think a lot of guys would have been voting in favour for it. Put it in to perspective, and suddenly we see how much men really do value their women's modesty. :)

Yeah i think most guys are just thinking about seeing random girls topless. They aren't thinking of their moms, sister and girlfriend.

It would be fine if everyone did it. However if its just 30% most guys aren't going to want their mom, sister or girlfriend to be in the 30% minority of girls who exposes their boobs to the world.

For boobs to be desexualized it would have to be like 70% of girls who support the movement also i think it might take a decade for them to be completely desexualised like in African tribes. Its not something that would happen overnight.

It is legal for females to go topless where I live. I have no desire to do so though. That's like putting a target on your back to get insane amounts of male attention, mostly of the lewd, incredibly creepy type. I like my boobs and all but the fact of the matter is; men are visual creatures. Breasts have become insanely sexualized, and so walking around with them hanging out will make you mostly, if not only, a sight of sexual interest.

Argue however you want, the male chest is not equivalent to the female chest.

Yes! Or at least pasties, but I would love to be able to strip down an extra layer when the weather gets too hot. I'd be a little hesitant at first if society wasn't used to it yet and saw it no diferently then when I guy took off his shirt, but it would be worth it. Free the boobs for more than dudes!

Some people are naive esp the girls who think its ok to walk topless. Well dont cry when people point and make 🎉 fun of their boobs looking weird and other things... Then the guys would carry on how ugly boobs should be covered up after seeing lots of big saggy ones in the streets. Ha 😊

Topless or naked doesn't make a difference to me :) but what about the others around who aren't used to it, the womens' security itself will be in question in a lot of places :)

Again I am unsure if a lot of women will be comfortable with the idea themselves. While some won't want to go topless for the sheer idea of losing out on decking themselves in more attractive clothes etc :). Moreover, one needs to think about sun burns, additional costs incurred for maintenance etc :D

But end of the day I won't claim it will be as 'normal' for me but more invigorating - yes. But again I sure won't be a walking pole nor be leering at anyone lol

I've been a lot with naturists, nude beaches / colonies etc since my teens (my dad never knew lol) so I'm fair game :)

I've been to nude beaches many times. Not a big deal. I didn't go nude myself, but I couldn't care less what others do.

There is nothing sexual about it. It's just a body and we all know what they look like. Sexuality has a lot more to do with mannerisms, facial expressions and stuff like that, than simply being nude. The nude beaches I've been to I didn't see a single person who was staring people down. People were just doing their own thing and minding their own business, not gawking.

I said NO and that I wouldn't be comfortable with it. But in reality, I don't like that there is a law about it. I don't think that if the law was removed that many women would walk nipples free on the street. But at least, the ones who want to could. I would be ok with that. I am ok with being a bit uncomfortable if it means people are more free. I bet we would see much more see-through stuff though.

This is the argument: in some cultures, such as tribal and several parts of Europe, women show their breasts and it's not sexualized. Something has happened from culture to culture to make people think this is so.

It's happening in some places in the world now and the decision to make it legal has a lot to do with the Millennials wanting to 'change our world' because of the live and let live sort of thinking. Which is fine - I always think that's the best way to be. But not giving others a chance to be modest and be set apart from it I think is too much. If for example, I choose to be out some place and prefer not to see someone else topless, then my comfort is no longer taken in to consideration and I must leave or go someplace else to possibly run in to it again. Places that had designated areas didn't run in to this. And no, I'm not a prude, I don't care to see people topless or not, I'm just speaking for those who might find it uncomfortable.

Ozanne, right now millions of people are offended by the most modest levels of western culture. Just normal wear for women screams lack of modesty to Islamic fundamentalists. How can we set any standard that will please everyone? And when you add any kind of beach attire, it gets even worse. You could certainly choose to sear lots of clothing even though the law may allow women to be topless, but you can't escape seeing that you are amongst others who are less modest than yourself.
