I'm not talking about celebrities or people you watched on TV or YouTube.

Did you have any good role models growing up?

I'm talking about people you knew personally.

Growing up I didn't have any good role models until around 8 because I didn't know anyone outside of my family and my parents weren't (and aren't) very good models. Long story though. Around 8 I started getting socialized and had a few very distant role models. My first real role model (s) came into my life around 15. The next big role models in my life came around 18. I'm now 20.

So what about you? Did you have any good role models growing up?

I'd say my mom is a pretty good role model. She's extremely hard working... Works 60 hour weeks 24/7. She works hard, but she plays hard as well. She really knows how to unwind and relax. I can be extremely open with her about pretty much everything in my life which is rare for her generation and exactly how I want to be as a parent if I'm ever lucky enough to be one. She's provided everything I could ever ask for.

One of my uncles was another role model. He had the most hardships with his life in terms of family and he still remains one of the kindest people I know. He's a legit saint. And he's incredibly intelligent.

I would say those are my 2 role models in my life growing up.

My parents, my male history teachers, my female science teacher, a female teacher in home room, and a few cool people along the way.

History teachers would inspire me to learn from the past and apply the lessons written down to the modern day along with giving constructive criticism to complete my research papers on time (I’d go afterschool) also taught integrity because one afterschool period they weren’t available (stuck in a teacher conference I think) so they offered to make it up the following day.

I could go on and on about the lessons though I want to keep it short, hope that is good with you all.

Not really.. I just knew  what not to do  or be like because I watched my parents and older sister fuck up in life so I would learn from their mistakes LOL. I kind of always just looked up to myself and set standards for myself. I guess you kind of become that way when you are the ignored middle child LOL

At each age range up to adulthood phase I can name people of positive value I think, even if I believe that the fate of a personality/psychology could be decided right at the start, in the family we land. The more I learn about people and the details in their history, the more this fate appears to me, this is not exactly deterministic, fortunately but.. A legacy can truly be a blessing or a curse...

And for those born with the bad legacy, again, fortunately, role models don't have necessary to be real people, the symbol matters, maybe not more than the flesh, but it does work. There are examples in this page, and in every other "page" I visited.

My father was a good role model. He was a WW2 vet, a small business owner and a proud American. He taught me to be a gentleman and conduct my life with honor.

I was a fat kid that everyone picked on. I pestered my parents to let me join a gym in the next town. There was a group of guys there al in their 20s that were pretty ripped. They all drove muscle cars. These guys took the time to teach a fat, geeky adolescent the proper way to train and always encouraged me. Later they taught me things about school and girls and other stuff. They were the big brother that I never had,

Unfortunately not. I spent a good chunk of my life moving around into the homes of various people. When I finally did get some decent people in my life I was 13 and doing absolutely everything I could to sabotage everything good in my life

Yes AND No... My father was a horrible role model and I chose not to follow it. I tended to follow others that I saw as good examples of behavior to follow.

No actually. I’ve argued this about toxic masculinity. We’re taught to never show emotion, always be the breadwinner, win win win, violence before diplomacy and a factory job can feed your family of 4. All lies.
