31yr old obsessed with video games still, is this normal?

He plays a lot of video games. Too much in my opinion. I don’t care if he plays. Please decompress and have fun. But when he doesn’t get his responsibilities done. Or is so neglectful I have to shoulder his responsibilities too…. I do all the housework, all the maintenance inside and outside the house, handle all the finances, bills, cook all the meals, take care of our four children and homeschool two of them and he has a small simple chore list on the fridge that’s been hanging for months. Some of it I scratched off myself by doing it. Other stuff I paid someone to do. He’s pretty screen obsessed in general. Always has his phone in his face, the tv on, or video games. The games are online gaming that he can’t pause and he gets pissed off me or the kids walk in front of the screen going about our day and it makes him die or get shot. It’s so frustrating. The kids try to talk to him and he can’t answer because he’s playing freaking hell divers and its intense game play the whole time. I try not to be resentful but it’s slowly building. Just turn the tv off and the screens off and participate in real life!!! Am I overreacting? I’m a stay at home mom but I’m not lazy. I make him breakfast at 5:30AM before work. Pack his lunch. Cook his dinner do all the chores and 90% of the child rearing. I go to the gym and try to take care of my body and appearance to be attractive. I’m so grateful he works so I can stay home and raise our babies and I know us women can be ungrateful at times so I’m curious. Is this a me problem? Is just earning a paycheck enough? Or do I have a reason to be a little irritated with the constant game play and screen addiction?

I wouldn't say normal. It's common in the sense we have people glued to screens and playing video games for 12 hours.

The online games are very addictive and people waste their lives playing them. He needs be mindful of his gaming and maybe switch to narrative only games. The novelty of those runs out after you have finished them.

Online games they update them every 2 weeks to a month to keep you hooked and waste hours of your life on them. If he is struggling to be mindful of his gaming he needs to switch to console games or narrative only games and try ween off it. It's bad he is neglecting his responsibilities.

He needs to replace that hobby with something else.

I know a guy who had the same problem he sold his gaming PC and he goes the internet Cafe to play his games. The trick to his addiction was to make it less convenient and more annoying to do. He still games but only when he goes out. His wife and kids used to get mad when they see him wasting time playing his games.

The problem is not the video games, it's the neglect and procrastination. Counseling could help. Are you willing to continue like this forever? If not, how much longer are you willing to wait for change?

I'm 56 and I still spend most of my time playing computer games. And I'm never going to stop! :)

They have grown up with them most of their lives so to them it is very normal.
