I'm not a huggy guy. Unless I've known someone for quite a while and we have a common bond and some history. With people I know a hug seems "normal" and genuine. I mean it. They mean it.

But I see men all the time (ahem, friends of mine) who will desperately try to hug women, any woman when we are out together. Women they've known for all of 30 minutes. It's just sort of cringe for me. 30 minute friends get a handshake and a smile. it's like they get off just being able to touch a woman for a few seconds.

Flip side. A lot of women seem to find hugs like a handshake. It's just how they greet each other and people in general. There's one group of women I keep running into. About 8 if they're all together. The hugging ritual takes about 2 minutes, arriving or leaving. But we honestly barely know each other. The hugs and kisses on the cheek seem sorta phony to me. You don't know me. You can't genuinely like me that much. And the same for me. I'm weirdly awkward in those situations. I call it the Hollywood hug. Nice gesture. Utterly meaningless. They mean no harm. Sigh, OK, hug me.

I did earlier but I have received one. A friend of mine on here lost his father unexpectedly yesterday 😞 I have met him a few times and he was such a a nice person with a wonderful sense of humor. My heart breaks for the family.
