POLL- Should I get a new car or fix my old car help?

I have my car 5 years now.

it has 200,000 miles on it.

I’ve been fixing diffeeent things for the past few months now.
now it needs a catalyst converter. It might be around $500/600 to fix.

I have $1k in savings.

I would need spend my savings on a down payment for a new car and pay monthly $500 or more as I have bad credit.

I plan save money June July to move out to my own studio Apt August 1st. As I’ve been living in my car as my parents live in a far city away from my job & I’m 27 I don’t want be 28 living with parents forever I’ve been miserable.
I’m too tired as well after work drive daily home.
If I pay rent and a new car I wouldn’t have money left over for mylsef or to save or for vacay. Maybe just $300 left over only.

I would be able afford a new car and rent if I had a boyfriend and we split rent. So I can still have one whole check free for mylsef.

Should I just fix my old car?

600 or more if a shop fixes it but most shops are rip offs and would go to the junk yard to get one and Install it for round 5 or 600. But if you know what you're doing, you can do it yourself for about $85.

No never put yourself in a bind. One 500 dollar payment is better than 70. 500 dollar payment just Try to become disciplined and put 25 or $50 in a savings account. So one day you can buy another car

You don't need to buy a new car just a decent used car with low miles on it.

I think there’s no point fix the old car cuz it’ll keep breaking down each month and it’ll get more and more issues per month.

So might as well just get a used car and make monthly payments.
