How do I fix being lonely?

I live in a small nowhere town. I wasn't graced with the ability to drive, and the nearest bus stop is a mile away, so it's difficult to get out the house. I don't really meet people unless I'm at work, but I don't like getting close to coworkers because I'd rather keep things professional. Other than that, I'm just not feeling that sort of connection with them. I managed to make two friends in the 14 years I've lived in this town, and for one reason or the other, because of their situation, they, like me, can't really get out the house either, so we can't meet up.

So I try to make friends online, but I never really make any friends that I genuinely feel close to. I only have less than 10 of those. It's hard to form a deep bond with people online. I've tried looking for groups in the area to meet people, but they're not groups for my interests. I can't make friends at school because I do my school online since I don't have transportation. It's just a very lonely life.

I'm happy to talk too. A woman on here just sent me pictures of her goat herd, so I figure that's friendship or at least very close to friendship. Online friendships do work.

Reflecting on your post: why don't you move towns, or at least residences? I'm sure you have reasons, but that seems achievable, maybe?

@bddddd I still live with my parents since its impossible for me to make a living on minimum wage. I'm going to school so I can get a better paying job, but moving is nowhere in the near future, unfortunately.

I agree it is very difficult to make very close bonds with people online. We all need some real human contact. You may have to make some changes to increase your chances of making friends, for example changing your rule about not socializing with coworkers and finding alternative ways of getting around like a bicycle or Uber.

Plenty of us are in the same postition and sadly we don't know. Even in a city with a lot more people you don't really meet other people.

I don't know how to make friends, if I'm honest. I've literally just been walking up to people asking for their Discord. 😭 But if you have discord, i can do you mine. Or if you have any other messaging app, we can see about that. I don't really check my messages here.
