How did you get your name?

“What’s in a name?” Shakespeare asks. I’d say that a name sometimes contains a great deal of importance. Naming kids is so meaningful that people who don’t have family names to carry on sometimes honor another close friend or relative. Sometimes they scour books for inspiration and have hours long discussions on the matter. I personally knew one couple who almost broke up over the naming of their child.
So, what’s in your name? Are you named after someone, or for someone? Did your name come from a book, or perhaps a show? Do you like your name and its origin story? Or have you considered changing it?

It's taken from the Mabinogion, a collection of old tales and a common source of inspiration for baby names.

A common practice here is to incorporate a place name into your name, such as a town or perhaps a local river or landmark. For example a man from Llansteffan might be called Dylan Steffan Jones or a girl born near a lake Anni Llŷn (lake) Jones. Bryn (Hill or mound) is commonly used because we have a lot of hills.

Because my mom, named Betsy, which she hated, was called Becky by my dad's best friend for years! When they were introduced, he thought he said her name was, Becky. She told my dad not to correct him. She loved the name and always said, when/if she has a daughter, she's gonna name her Becky.

My surname is an ancient Anglo-Saxon one and my first and middle were chosen for their meaning - Loved Gift of God.

I chose my son's names for meaning as well

My name is Jasmine and my mom named me after the 1980s television actress, Jasmine Guy. My mom thought she was so pretty back in the day. 😊

She still is! I’ve been watching a show called “Dead Like Me”. She’s in it and i recognized her immediately from “A Different World”. She looks the same!
