Would you give your small child up for adoption if they were diagnosed with autism?

Couple years back i had a talk with this person about child rearing and stuffs like that as they mentioned they are planning on having a child with their partner, and the topic of kids with autism came up. Basically they told me if they had a kid and the kid were autistic they would give that kid up for adoption because it would be too much stress and they would end up resenting their child. Personally i don’t have the highest regards for well-off people with all the supports in the world who plan to abandon their autistic child even prior to having one, and still go on and have a planned pregnancy anyway knowing full well kids don’t always come out neurotypical. These are the people that need to be child free in my opinion. And yes i am aware people have free will and i don’t plan to intervene, it just saddens me to some extent. I don't know what do you think about this situation?

I never wanted nor will have kids, but when you do, it's a crap shoot and you have to be ready to handle whatever happens. I agree with you that a person, or couple, who would put a child up for adoption because of that, should NEVER, EVER have any kids. EVER !!!

i'm of the opinion that people like that shouldn't even be having kids in the first place. It should be required reading for people to understand birth defects and such that could happen. But of course they'll never listen anyways.

People who do that should never be allowed to have a kid again. A kid is not a product that bought and didn't meet your expectations and even having healthy kids can be very stressful. If that's your kind of thinking you shouldn't be a parent.

It would depend on how severe. Hopefully, I would discover before birth and have an abortion.

Well there is no way to test it before birth, it’s kinda impossible.

You can do a DNA test before birth. That may reveal a potential problem, such as the doubling up of recessive genes.

Well DNA testing don’t reveal if the child is autistic, there is also no autistic genes. Other conditions, sure, but not for autism

That is just horrible. I already feel bad for the child of those people without even knowing them. What have those people been taught, a fairytale? Raising children is hard, but oh so rewarding.

No but I would hope that before it was born the doctors could catch it so I could abort the mission.. If not I guess I have to accept it.. I'd never give one of my kids up for adoption.

If it was severe austim probably yes.

If they were a high functioning austitic person probably not.
