What are your favorite cat breeds and dog breeds, and why?

My favorite breeds of cats are Scottish Fold cats, who are funny and affectionate and of whom I have two, and Bengal cats, who are incredibly friendly and of whom I have one. I love all rescue cats.

I grew up with a German Shepherd dog, and I love them dearly. I don't have any dogs right now, so I don't really have a favorite, but I've been partial to Malamutes and Huskies, and of course any rescue dog.

I am not familiar with cat breeds as I am not so much a cat person. I find them to be too peculiar and not as cuddly as a dog would be. At least, that is the impression they give me based on what I see. I am sure that the one or the other cat would be very cuddly but in general, cats are still perceived as predators. Just see how many million birds are being killed every year by those felines.

As for dogs, we had 2 during my youth. A baby Boxer (which I incidentally killed by mistake) and a Belgian Shepherd, all black and short hair, almost like a panther.

He was absolutely adorable and protective of us kids but could be very mean if anyone he did not know would try to come to close to us.

For dogs, I love golden retrievers. Besides being beautiful dogs, they are so friendly, funny and gentle with everyone.
For cats, I like the Scottish folds look too but I’ve never owned one. I’ve had only tuxedo cats, and a Bluepoint Siamese, and I can say that the tuxedos are very smart. Siamese are too and very vocal, but they can be mean. The tuxedos are not a breed but a mix of any black and white pattern.
A cat I took in before a big snow storm hit, is a tabby. Beautiful cat, and very affectionate. Friendly too. Luckily the owner saw the ad I had posted with her picture and she’s reunited. She happened to live about a block away from me in my neighborhood.
There is another cat in my neighborhood that is reddish and has long fluffy fur, and a beautiful face, pink nose. I think she is my favorite as she’s very friendly and not aggressive at all.

Mutts. Shelter cats and dogs.

I had a purebred Himalayan. Gorgeous cat, super friendly. But a pain in the ass. He had to be brushed every day to prevent mats. And the little bastard loved to eat plastic bags for some reason. Almost killed himself.

I also had a purebred Boxer. Absolute psycho of a dog. Super friendly to a fault. Energy 24X7. Would go nuts if left alone. The vet said he had "separation anxiety". $60 a month for life for doggie tranquilizers.

In contrast my son had a shelter cat. She was the perfect pet. Friendly, laid back, and just a joy to live with.

Shit, I just read that Trainwreck of a paragraph again. What I meant to say was that my family always had random mixed breed stray cats just show up at our house. When they wouldn't leave, we would just say "well, I guess we have a cat now." I want to get another cat but live at a busy intersection. Locking a miniature killing machine like a cat indoors is not a good life for such a creature

If you're going to keep a pet as a pet, you need to keep it in the house. Trust me on this one. They don't mind at all, but you will mind a great deal if you let one out and it gets killed.

Dude I have been raising dogs and cats since before you were even conceived. Cats are going to cat. Cats come and go as they please, who am I to stop them from living their cat life? Every time I lock a cat in the house he yowls at the door until I let him out.

My cats and I disagree with you. Just because a cat yells for a bit does not mean he's unhappy. Mine are quite happy in the house and most importantly quite safe.

German Wirehairs. Extremely versatile, intelligent, with most lines still having incredible instinct as well as disposition. Even the confirmation lines still prioritize Dual Champions.

Growing up we had Irish Setters. While incredibly beautiful dogs, they were straight up pretentious pussies in the field.
