Would you defend a friend being harassed online or stay silent?

I'm ashamed of myself, because a dear friend of mine has been being harassed and I just stand by and let it happen. What really hurts, is she thinks the world of me and admires me a great deal, because of that, I hope she doesn't lose any respect for me. What are your thoughts? Would you defend a friend on here? If a friend didn't defend you, would you lose respect for them?

My answer is the same as @Beckybooboo. I don't really want anyone to defend me 'cuz then it usually just makes a much bigger mess out of everything. BUT , when it's the other way around, I usually jump in 'cuz I just can't seem to keep quiet , online or off , and I always make a much bigger mess out of everything.

I wouldn't expect anyone to defend me, it would be nice but it could also strain our friendship. I especially wouldn't want you to get involved, I'm sure you'd only make things worse! I would defend a friend if it somehow involved me. Even if I was involved indirectly.

LOL, most (or all) of my friends are nowhere near as aggressive and confrontational as I am. I step in all the time. I hate assholes. And I'm willing to cause a scene.

Oh I do it face to face in real life too. And I agree, call out the assholes, first time, every time. If not, your acceptance establishes a pattern of bad behavior, validates lies, etc.

I have defended friends online before, not that they can't perfectly well defend themselves. With the ease of blocking users being bullied online feels like a choice.
