Is it weird or creepy to friend and follow a 3rd cousin I’ve never met?

I recently reached out to a 3rd cousin on Facebook. I sent friend request and a message introducing myself and how we’re related. She accepted the request but the message still says delivered. Then her Instagram popped up on my feed so I requested to follow. We have mutual friends by the way on both. Would that be weird/creepy also?
I would really appreciate feedback. Thanks.

I don't think it's creepy, but it may be weird, depending whether or not that 3rd cousin is interested in connecting with distant relatives. Some people get anxiety about relatives being too involved in their lives, let alone ones that are basically strangers.
