Fellow white people in America have lost my trust, honestly. Obviously I can’t paint anyone with the exact same brush, but with half the country voting for MAGA, and that group being overwhelmingly white, I’m now in a spot where white folks have to prove themselves to me before I’ll allow them into my life. Everyone is suspect now, and it’s dicey, because they might be totally cool to me because I’m like them. But it’s not about how you perceive and treat me as a fellow white person; it’s how you demonstrate to me that you perceive and treat others.

Just an example: There’s a new young enforcer in the NHL, and he TKO’d a guy pretty spectacularly yesterday; just got him turned the wrong way and he basically punched him from behind while he couldn’t see or defend it. It was all fair, just a good scrap, as I saw it.

And then there’s the first comment I see: something to the effect of “This is what happens when you get them alone and they can’t just jump you”, clearly referring to the loser of the fight, who is a Black dude, and the winner was White. Dude had a screen name implying we’re from the same city as me, which has a racist history, and I just made a comment of how this is why our city doesn’t beat the allegations. Some other idiot chimed in with “I’d rather be racist than get jumped.”

This is just the shit I’m talking about. It’s not gonna cause me harm or anything, but it just feels like every white person I meet nowadays, it’s a coin flip if they’re on that kind of bullshit or not.

“White grievance” is the most pathetic and annoying thing about America to me today, and I just don’t want to be anywhere near it. I haven’t met a ton of Mexicans just out of lack of proximity, but when I have, they’ve always been cool.

Worst case, they won’t speak English and we’ll be reduced to polite nods and gestures, which I’d honestly prefer to conversations these days, especially with potential MAGA supporters past and present.

Mexicans are either really good or really bad. The good ones are super helpful—they’ll constantly check in on you and invite you over to their house. The bad ones steal and deal drugs.

I'm not answering this because the "white family" in this case are neo-confederates and that's different from your description of the options.

I would prefer to live next to the Mexican family than the neo-Confederates. If the white family were not neo-Confederates, I would not care.

I do not really care what kind of family lives next door to me as long as there is no politics involved in any of the discussions, that the children are quiet, and that the parents are no criminals.

They could be white, black, Mexican people for as much as I care but I would not tolerate anyone that's so ostentatiously displays their political views. This is a total no go for me because to me displaying such obvious t-shirts is a sign of extremisms and this is not something I would want as a neighbor. Forcing children to share their political mind is something that I would not tolerate either and I would have a back check done on the parents to see if they're even mentally able to raise children.
